Clementine bottles: multicolour basketry

3311

Our basketry bottles are inspired by the sangria jugs of the 1950s

This technique was used to decorate the sangria jugs 50 years ago. The history and origin of these bottles varies according to the sources, but it seems to have originated in France, where they became fashionable at the end of the 1960s. The bottles were decorated with hollow pvc threads using traditional basketwork and macramé techniques. The curious name Scoubidou comes from the title of a French song from the late 1950s that became popular at the time, even giving its name to this material that was then used in children's handicrafts. From there it also came to be used to decorate bottles, furniture, such as chairs, and lamps which are now back in fashion.
